Meet Our Founder

Hi there!  My name is Shana, and I’m super glad you’re here!  I wanted to take a minute to share a bit more about my path to founding Facets of Skin Aesthetics.

According to my mother, my love affair with beauty started when I was a baby in the ER sick with an intense earache.  I was a cranky, fussy, crying baby, and the only thing that would soothe me while waiting?  The cover of a beauty magazine showing a woman with a bold, bright red lip.  I immediately stopped crying, completely enthralled and mesmerized by said lipstick.  And thus my love affair began.  I was the kid begging to use her mom’s makeup so I could give my friends makeovers.  I did tons of prom makeup for friends and cousins.  And so of course I grew up to work a combined 13 years as a freelance makeup artist and aesthetician.  So I suppose you could say FSA is the culmination of my life’s passion.

But FSA goes well beyond the pursuit of just beauty, though.  I’ve struggled with skin allergies and eczema since birth, trying to keep my skin healthy so I could just be comfortable.  Even as a child, emotional triggers, whether happy or sad, excited or scared, caused hives and eczema.  I’ve tried it all, and it took me years and a lot of trial and error to understand my truly sensitive skin and what works best for me.  That’s why FSA is so dedicated to serving those with sensitive and compromised skins.  I get the struggle, how it can affect quality of life, and I know that each person’s struggle is a little bit different.

These aren’t the only things driving FSA.  Over 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety.  And unfortunately, doctors agreed I’d likely had PTSD since I was about 2 years old.  Since I’d been diagnosed with depression during my teen years, this was crushing.  The ups and downs ranged from yoga and meditation and mindfulness and balance to tears and fears and worry and doubt.  From feeling good about my appearance and body to wishing I could shrink to nothing and disappear.  The highest highs and the lowest lows.  And back and forth and back and forth and all around…because PTSD, anxiety, and depression work that way.  If mental health is a challenge for you, you know that it’s an ongoing journey.  During my journey with finding practices to support my mental health I discovered that my passion for makeup and skincare could be a team player of sorts.  Especially skincare.  I found ways to really make it about taking care of my well-being, while also taking great care of my skin health and, yes, also getting good glow.

Now in my 40s and in peri menopause, my skin journey is in its next phase.  I’ve come to see that everything I’ve learned about skin function, skin care treatments, products, and ingredients, has had positive cumulative effects for my skin when it comes to starting the aging process.  It’s an exciting time in the skin care industry!  While of course there’s no stopping the aging process (and why would we want to?), now more than ever there are so many options that allow us to choose how we want to age - as I like to call it, “age planning”.  And that’s what Facets of Skin Aesthetics is really all about…meeting people on their individual journeys, keeping in mind their lifestyles and goals, and helping them achieve their healthiest skin while getting real results.  And always keeping in mind that the most important thing about your skincare journey actually isn’t just your skin…it’s all of you.
